Ukraine is one of the largest sugar exporters

In the 2018-2019 marketing year (MY), more than 40 Ukrainian sugar factories produced 1.82 million tons of sugar. Although sugar supplies to Ukraine declined in 2019, this did not stop the country from maintaining its position in the top ten largest exporters in the world!

How much sugar does Ukraine export?

To enter the TOP-10 countries of sugar exporters, Ukraine managed to get in 2018, when the country supplied environmentally friendly sugar of $217 million to foreign markets.

Join Japan learned that according to the Ukrtsukor Association, in the first three months of the 2018-2019 MY Ukraine exported 139,900 tons of sugar. In the 2017-2018 marketing year, Ukraine exported 560,400 tons of sugar. And the main importer was Uzbekistan, which purchased 209,900 tons of sugar amounted $79.1 million.

Just to remind you that the marketing year for sugar lasts from September to August.

“Today is a very significant event. We produced the first organic sugar in our state. 10 years ago, the first domestic organic products began to appear, and today we are witnessing a dynamic development of organic production in the domestic market, ”said Olga Trofimtseva, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

And the Deputy Chairman of the Board of NASU “Ukrtsukor” Ruslana Yanenko noted, “In the 2018-2019 MY, which ended in August, we can note some change in the geography of supplies.

Although Uzbekistan remains the leader in imports, shipments to this country decreased significantly, from 210 to 96 thousand tons. Azerbaijan (74 thousand tons) moved up to second place, which occupied the third place in the previous season (43 thousand tons) and Tajikistan was in third place (36 thousand tons in 2018/2019 MP against 16 thousand tons in 2017/2018 MY, 9th place). ”

According to Ukrtsukor estimates, export deliveries in the 2019/2020 marketing year are expected to reach 300 thousand tons of sugar.

“According to the forecasts of leading world analytical organizations, the next marketing year will be scarce. For the Ukrainian producer, this means that we have a chance to increase export supplies, and given the fact that India and Brazil are reducing sugar production, we can compete for the Asian and African markets, ”commented Ruslana Butilo, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Sugar Association of Ukraine “Ukrsahar” .
